Hat-friendly hairstyles to try out

To tell the truth we are big fans of lovely and cosy beanie hats, particularly those which feature a fantastic pompom! But one thing we do have to consider when it comes to wearing our favourite winter hats is of course our hairstyle.

Nothing too elaborate will do, and most up-dos are totally out of the question, however there are still some lovely styles that will look great both with and without your bonnet! To stay cosy and looking great this cold season, here are some of our favourite hat-friendly hairstyles.

Fishtail braids

If you fancy channelling a bit of the film Frozen and other Nordic styles this winter, then fishtail braids are your friend. Just a little bit more interesting than your usual 3-strand braids, they are easy to master and will look great peeping out from under your bobble hat. Depending if you want one or 2 braids, split your hair accordingly; then split this into two. Take a small strand from the outer edge of one side and join to the inner edge of the other side – copy for your second strand and just keep going. Neat and intricate, it’s a lovely wintry style.

Wavy

If you have plumped for the fishtail braids, then if you know you’re going to be in a rush the next day, leave them in overnight. Simply spray a little dry shampoo into your roots before you go to bed and in the morning your hair will still be fresh. Undo the braids and you’ll find that you have beautiful natural crimps and waves; simply set with a little hairspray, pop on your hat, and look at that, you’re ready to go!

Poker straight

Wearing a hat can of course flatten your roots so take advantage of this with a sleek and chic poker straight do. The cold weather means no humidity to frizz and fluff it up, and you can have your hair looking beautifully coiffed and shiny. Plus this style will make your hair look as long as possible; just remember to bring some of it forward before you put your hat on so that you can still show off your luscious locks. And don’t forget to use heat protection spray when straightening too.

The high ponytail for headbands

For sports, or simply for a bit of alpine chic, an on-trend headband is just the thing, and what could be a better hairstyle than a glamorous high ponytail?! Elevate that pony to the highest heights ever for a retro look that is bold, eye-catching and really fun. Your ears will be toasty warm and your crowning glory on display – a great mix.

So don’t get lazy with your hair this season – cold weather and hats don’t mean you have to hide your hair!
